INCOMING STUDENTS FOR FALL 2024

Welcome to the Engineering & Design Department

Fall Advising & Registration 2024 will take place virtually during the summer months. Once you have signed up, you will be ready to take the first steps in your WWU career!  The Engineering & Design Department hosts four majors; Electrical and Computer Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Polymer Materials Engineering, and Industrial Design.  If you are interested in any of these degrees, you are in the right place!

Who can I contact?

For questions about our programs, course planning, or general information related to Engineering & Design, you can contact the pre-major advisor for the department.

Math Placement Assessment

Incoming students are required to complete the ALEKS Math Placement Assessment in order to register for a math course. If students have math transfer credits, or AP scores, it is likely that you won't need to take the placement exam.   The Math Department has resources available to figure out where you stand with your math scores.

Check your Western Email

Log into your WWU email!

If you chose an interest in one of our degrees on your WWU application, you will receive an email a couple of days prior to your scheduled Advising & Registration date.  There is helpful information in this email and also provides you with my contact information.

Declare your pre-major

Send email to ENGD@wwu.edu and include this information:

Name, W#, intended major - Electrical and Computer Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or Polymer Materials Engineering.

Industrial Design requires an entrance portfolio acceptance before declaring a pre-major. Check out ID admissions for more information.

Keep in mind that you can change your pre-major at any time!  Declaring now gives you a "place at WWU" and an advising contact.

Course planning

Courses might appear full before your registration date, but there's no need to worry. The registration system daily increases the number of seats for popular 100-level courses such as ENGR 101, PHYS 161, CHEM 161, ENGL 101, and MATH 124.

Classes full?

Try not stress about it.  In most cases you can try again in winter quarter! Here are some things to keep in mind:

  1. You can get on a waitlist starting September 4th.
  2. ENGR 101 is offered in winter and spring quarters too!
